PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

10-2008 - It’s been a busy summer season in Chesterfield. Next week is round-up. We’ll gather 3,500 mother cows, their calves and a number of cantankerous bulls from about 25 square miles of mountain summer range and bring them back to ranch headquarters. Then we’ll sort them and ship them to their home ranches. We are under a winter storm watch with 6-12 inches of snow expected in the high country, but that actually helps. The cows will want to come home!

Three of our purebred Connemaras and one halfbred will cover a lot of rough and beautiful country this week, but they are up to the challenge. Over the past month they have shown their versatility by serving us in several fun activities.  We did an endurance ride one weekend and a carriage driving clinic (both single and pair) the next. They have been jumping cross county and showing off their talents in the dressage arena also this summer.  In the winter we’ll play some indoor polocrosse and school grids to sharpen their show jumping skills.  It is exciting to watch a new crop of foals grow and develop and yearlings mature into athletic two and three year olds bursting with youthful exuberance and looking for a job! Life is good when you can share all these great experiences with your best friends – both equine and human.
