Because of many factors, I stopped recording in my journal on a daily basis. Once Racer got back from his testing, I was out at the barn almost continuously caring for the horses, and watching Racer closer...

December 30, 2003

There is a big gap in my journal, as I returned to work with Anne on the websites, and Racer went in to the vet barn for his Cushings test. I missed him so much while he was gone, but everyone said they fell in love with him because he is so personable. When we went to pick him up to bring him home, I got stuck in the office with paperwork so asked that Ladonna please load him for me (we had her trailer)  She said she walked inside the trailer, turned around to see if he wanted to sniff and investigate matters, and he was already inside and rarin’ to go home!

He did suffer a bit of an adverse reaction to the Cushings Test, but he does not have Cushings, and now they are looking into if he is glucose intolerant.  I did some research on the Internet about horses/thyroidism and founder and discovered the ailment and asked Dr. Mike, of which he had never heard of such an animal. But in looking over the research, he found out, there is a high possibility that Racer could indeed have this. Oddly enough, there is a talk on this very subject this week in Albany (only open to vets) and one of the other vets is going to go. Mike will talk to him after the lecture and see if they can put some of this together. Apparently it entails a blood test, but Racer cannot be stressed, he cannot be in pain and he has to fast first. So whatever happens, will happen on our land and not at the vet barn and so far founder has kept him in some level of pain every day.
