Stall Confinement Bites Back PDF Print E-mail
Written by Mary Anne

Confining Racer even for his own good, turned out to be the wrong thing to do. He doesn't like confinement, and he let me know this in a very mustang- way-

Jan 17th-

Stall confinement is not for my boy. When I went in to feed tonight, he turned his rump on me and threatened me! He hasn’t done that since he was a baby! I kicked him square and told him to knock it off! He turned around and just stared at me. I put his hay into the feeder, and as I turned to go, he reached over and bit me!  I lost it, and grabbed his head (which he had flung way high) and finally got it, and I squeezed his nose and shouted at him. I told him that I didn’t care if he was sick, I was doing the best I could under the circumstances and he better understand that! I told him that biting me was unacceptable and he best knock it off!  Then I backed away, examined the bite, and waited to cool out.

I approached him again and this time I just told him I was sorry he was hurting. We became friends again, but I did leave him in the stall for about two hours before releasing him.  The good news is he is walking again. (Big sigh of relief)  I went in and placed a call to the animal communicator and asked her to put him up higher on her list and call me when she could.  Last time I looked, he was laying down under the trees.
