Fighting Founder is very frustrating for the owner, and painful for the horse. Suddenly this horse, that is so used to having freedom of movement, finds that he is unable to move without pain shooting through his legs and feet. This causes not only pain, but confusion and a horse can get very stubborn with treatment. Thankfully Racer understood I was only trying to help....

Feb 6, 2004

I have been soaking Racer's feet three times a day in warm water and salts and astringents. Racer has lost the founder shuffle, and is able to walk today, bearing more weight on his right leg than before. The pounding pulse has diminshed into a dull throbbing, and his appetite has returned.

At midnight, he gets stalled for the night. We are waiting for the rain to stop and then bringing in a load of sand we will dump it in front of the stalls to help him find good footing and get him out of the mud. He is such a good horse, so patient with me and all the stuff we are trying-

Can I just go on record and say "I hate Founder!"
