Cribber
Chewing on wood is usually done out of boredom or improper diet. You can also use these following tips to help stop the behavior:
Use pressure or creosole treated boards in the stalls
spread the boards with a combintion of tobasco sauce, horseradish and water
Get a strong-smelling non toxic bar of soap and rub the wood well
Install a hot wire right above where the horse is chewing
But the best way is to re-evaluate the feed program and the exercise routine of the horse and change it accordingly. Horses need exercise and they need to stay stimulated.

Prior to riding your horse for the first time, try grooming him while you stand on a small stepladder. This will get him used to having you above him and remove some of the fear that you are a predator. It is also handy when you are clipping a bridle path.

Removing sap
Crisco lard works well to remove sap and pitch. Simply spread on the lard, wait about 10 minutes then with a soft cloth remove the lard and the sap melts away.
