It has been unseasonably cold this year. I was clued to how bad the winter was going to be by the early undercoat of the horses in the fall. They looked like scruffy mountain horses with the thick hair coming in.

It has dropped to 12 degrees and the frozen ground is taking its toll on Racer's legs. I have confined both to their stalls for the time being. It is supposed to be warmer in the next few days but until the ground thaws out they are on house arrest. I am carrying out water to them twice a day as the irrigation pipes burst the other day.

China, our new german shepherd dog is barking at them and running at their feet. I will have to take strides to prevent her from coming so close to them as she is liable to get kicked.

Trav has mud fever again this year. Not much I can do about it until the rainy season has passed. Rain is predicted for early next week.
